Dr Li - I certainly appreciate your website and the topics you present on health, well being and longevity and have continued for over the past two years after I discovered your site on YouTube.
I am 87 years old and still enjoy playing golf 2 - 3 times a week, and if the course is full of players I go to the driving range and hit over 100 balls that takes an hour or more.
I was born in Canada in 1939 and participated in sports at a young age. I enjoyed track and field and participated in ‘high jump’ and at 16 years of age, the Hamilton Olympic Club requested I train in their weekly gatherings. I unofficially broke the Canadian high jump record at 6’-5”, but not being a competitive competition this was not officially recorded. In the olympic trials, I came in second to a 24 year old athlete and he broke the Canadian record at 6’-5 3/4” and I only accomplished 6’-5” then couldn’t clear the final height.
I also was a fast pitch softball pitcher and played ice hockey until I was 37 then had to stop due to injuring my sciatic nerve. I continued pitching until I was 50 and had to stop due to knee swelling and my doctor told me to stop due to potential injury. One period, when I was Indonesia at age 42, I did pitch for the Jakarta Blue Jays who had members of their olympic team and did pitch in exhibition games, but couldn’t participate in competitive competition due to not being an Indonesian. An article was written about my participation in the local Sportif, Magazine.
I built a home on a golf course community in Conroe, Texas, and since I couldn’t pitch, I decided to take up the ‘old man’s game’ of golf. Traveling internationally, I did participate in the Indonesian, Senior Amateur Golf competition 2007, and won first place and have the documents.
I’ve had my knee and hip replaced with the titanium inserts, and it still affects my competitive spirit, but I enjoy getting out and working up a sweat and consume liters of water and tart cherry juice, also pomegranate and cranberry juice with lemon water.
My wife and I have moved to Indonesia and I can play golf 365 days a year in the hot and steamy weather but it is limited in the rainy season.
My wife, a nurse by trade, does prepare holistic diet, which I enjoy and I consume much garlic, turmeric, ginger, cayenne and many herbs and spices in high PH alkaline water. Due to my aging bones and joints, she does prepare the castor oil, baking soda with drops of rose hip and boswellia including the Chinese Wong To Yick oil, over my sciatic nerve and joints and I can play a 4 hour round of golf with no restricting pain.
